Open Question: Sort of continuing education...not sure which path?

I graduated in 2007 with a chem eng degree (no internships). didn't look for a job right away...had some family businesses i was trying to figure out. Was able to apply some engineering.....on a variety of different levels.....applied for jobs late 2008 and got some snags...but when the economy started to crash.....didn't work out. So i've been out of school for about 1.5 years...limited engineering experience....i was told after 1 year you are considered "stale".....so i started taking graduate level courses in chem eng...just so i can show my mind is still fresh. Many chem engs end up getting an MBA down the line. Something i was considering doing. Wasn't sure if it would be better for me to switch and start taking courses towards that now......or keep up with the chem eng courses. Basically..which would a future employee prefer....to see i'm still proficient on the technical side of things....or show i have some advanced knowledge on the management side. Focus now is on just getting that entry level job. meant future employer ..not employee.......  more

Resolved Question: Where can I learn more about IVF & surrogacy with Dr. Patel in India?

I believe it was in the fall of 2007 that Oprah had a show about surrogacy and it focused on this Dr. Patel in India. I wish I would have recorded it! If anyone has a link to that show, please share. More importantly, if there is a website where I can learn more about her clinic in India, I would appreciate having that also. Surrogacy in the US can approach $100k and I recall that it was quite a bit less at her clinic... We have tried IVF multiple times and are open to adoption, but the wait is a long one. Thanks!  more

Voting Question: How do I reapply to college?

I graduated high school in 2007. I wanted to take a year off from school but my parents insisted I go to college, so I went to a private university in Boston in the fall of 2007 and ended up with no credits and failing out after the spring semester. I then went to a local community college and failed out of that in fall of 2008 before finally being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder which was keeping me from focusing on academics. I have been at a full time job since leaving there and am preparing on reapplying for the 2010 fall semester. How do I handle such a dilemma when filling out applications? I was in the top 30 % of my high school class and did well on my SATs back in 2006 (I got a 1900) should I retake those? Try again at the CC? Contact a "college counselor"? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. P.S. I believe my H.S. GPA was about a 3.3  more

Voting Question: Could my birth control be doing this or a thyroid problem?

I am in my early thirties. For the majority of my life, I have been slightly bigger than average (wearing a sz 12). When I was 29, I decided to get a hold of my weight again, once and for all. I started with the 2 weeks, no carbs. Did it again 3 months later. After that, I didn't seem to lose as much weight and began to really get into going to the gym. I got down to a sz 2. That was in 2007 and stayed that small, regardless of giving up my dedicated gym routine for the rest of the year. Once 2008 came along, a sz 4 was tight in feb and by may I was back into a sz 12. I do have PCOS and had some rough times in that amount of time (divorce, becoming a single parent, my father passed away, etc..). I have been back and forth to my dr who just keeps telling me that I am basically lazy and fat. After a year of constantly asking my dr for more insight, I have changed dr. Resolved Question: Why do some people not believe in global warming and that it is partially man made?

I try and be open minded and listen to people who have differing views than my own and understand where they are coming from. I often learn a great deal from listening to a variety of opinions. But the resistance to accepting global warming as a fact and that it is partially caused by the actions of mankind has gotten me stumped. I wonder if I understand the topic correctly and the point that the nonbelievers in global warming are making. I know many people who do not believe in global warming tend to be conservative in their political beliefs and I wonder if there is a connection. But I have not been able to find a good answer for why they believe this. I have heard them say that the earth goes through cycles of cooling and warming and this is just one of them. But the global warming we are experiencing at the moment is seen as different by the majority of the scientific community and not caused from a natural cycle. Since 2007 no scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting opinion about global warming. They all say that it is real and that it is at least partially caused by man. The New York Times reported: "The world's leading climate scientists said global warming has begun, is very likely caused by man, and will be unstoppable for centuries.... The phrase very likely translates to a more than 90 percent certainty that global warming is caused by man's burning of fossil fuels. That was the strongest conclusion to date, making it nearly impossible to say natural forces are to blame." Also On May 2, 2006, the Federal Climate Change Science Program, commissioned by the Bush administration in 2002, released the first of 21 assessments. “Studies ... show clear evidence of human influences on the climate system (due to changes in greenhouse gases, aerosols, and stratospheric ozone).... The observed patterns of change over the past 50 years cannot be explained by natural processes alone, nor by the effects of short-lived atmospheric constituents (such as aerosols and tropospheric ozone) alone.” And in a May 29, 2008 assessment, they stated: “It is well established through formal attribution studies that the global warming of the past 50 years is due primarily to human-induced increases in heat-trapping gases.” There also seems to be a link to global warming and the recent economic problems the world has been facing. Cap n' tax is one way the government has decided to deal with these linked issues here in the United States and in Europe they have dealt with it by creating the European Union Emission Trading System. I wonder if it is just a political conservative view here in the USA to attack anything that might hold businesses back from making a prophet. But if that is the case then why isn’t the conservative argument just focusing on how to deal with global warming and not try and argue against the idea of global warming as a whole? I feel like I am missing something. Why would apparently rational, intelligent people argue so strongly against something that seems self evident? I am still trying to be open minded about people not believing in global warming and that it is partially manmade but I have not been able discern why they make these claims. I would very much appreciate an explanation.  more

Resolved Question: Is this true Washington Post ABC News poll showed 61% support for giving illegals amnesty?

First, the public support for immigration reform is growing stronger notwithstanding the conventional wisdom advanced by the political class. For a big majority of Americans, the failure to address immigration is a symbol of Washington's failure to confront and solve tough problems. Comprehensive immigration reform - the key elements of which require strong enforcement at the borders and in the workplace, coupled with a mechanism for unauthorized immigrants to get legal, learn English and pay taxes - is viewed by the majority of Americans as the most practical approach to addressing this complicated problem. And in this economic downturn, voters are actually more supportive of immigration reform than at any other time. As pollster Celinda Lake tells it, "voters are very focused on finding solutions to our problems. They support comprehensive immigration reform as a practical, common-sense solution and have no patience for politicians who want to point fingers and score points rather than fix the problem." The evidence for this point of view is growing. A Washington Post/ABC News poll showed 61% support for giving undocumented immigrants the right to live in the U.S. "if they pay a fine and meet other requirements," a 12% increase since 2007. The Pew Research Center recently found that 63% of respondents supported a pathway to citizenship, up 5% from 2007. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-sharry/memo-to-the-president-yes_b_220072.html I guess they must of polled all members of La Raza at this point 7 million jobs have been lost and we are suppose to want more folks who will bring more folks ? Resolved Question: Which late 1st round ,2nd round , undrafted player will be the next superstar in the future?

i don't usually focus on 2nd round players until maybe two years ago .. there have been quite a few second round players who became better then first round players ...gilbert areans, carlos boozer , ben wallace , michael redd and david west ...who will be the next to accomplish a great basketball career even though they are drafted late or not even in the top ten ? mario chalmers-(2nd round 34th pick 2008) this guy to me is not a true point guard..but he has plenty of time to grow ..he average 10 pts , 4assist , and 2 steals his rookie season nate robinson ( 1st round 21th pick 2005) he's already been nicknamed the green lantern...he has more popularity with nba fans then players who have been an all star...i think he made a great improvement this year with his offense and defense... david lee ( 1st round 30th pick 2005 ) he's a great double double machine.. i think if he went to a different team he would make the impact like carlos boozer did when he went to utah... luis scola ( 2nd round 55th pick 2002) he's improved his game a lot every year ...can he be another foreginer that makes a great impact like gasol does for the lakers or ginnobli does it for the spurs aaron brooks ( 1st round 26th pick 2007) the reason why they traded rafer alston to the magic ...was to give this guy the starting job ...now with all the time he has now..can he make himself an ellite guard in the league? marc gasol ( 2nd round 2007 46th pick) some nba anaylist say he's better then his brother... glen davis ( 2nd round 2007 35th pick ) i sometimes wonder how good he will be if he wasn't on a team with so many superstars paul millsap ( 2nd round 2006 47th) great rebounder and defender ...they don't need boozer if they have this beast on the team  more

Voting Question: I am extremely self-conscious. How to make it go away? Will this ever end?

Before the year 2007, I was a very outgoing, aggressive and outspoken girl. Since young, I was always the leader in the group; the most boisterious and animated one. I had many friends and I would always steal the limelight. I loved attention; good or bad. I would speak my mind, eat happily and I was NEVER shy to make new friends on the street; just occasional blushing when I spoke to cute guys. I was confident, I was so happy and proud of myself and I love my life. I am NOT a girl who had everything going perfectly. I had a fair share of ups and down. I had family problems, love problems, friendship problems, and weight problems. But I was not extremely negative. Then things took a turn for the worse. I don't know what was happening to me. I don't know why I'm feeling this way all of a sudden. I don't know what's happening to my body. It is as though this "illness" just pop into my head out of nowhere. I can't seem to comprehend why I am feeling/thinking this way. I have social anxiety. I realised this 2 years later when I begin to identify strange symptoms that's uncontrollably happening to my mind and body. Just one day. One god dam day, I suddenly became aware; my aware senses heightened. I don’t know how I got about feeling and thinking this way. Then I start to have problems walking straight and relaxed. My leg/ankle/feet would walk funny and I can’t seem to control it; the more I try to focus and control it, the more strangely I’d walked. I can’t seem to comprehend what was happening to me and I slowly became self-conscious. Gradually, I became conscious about the way I looked and my body posture. Similarly, I don’t know how this awareness became deeper; I don’t know what/how this awareness made me think of my body and looks but it just came to my mind one day. Soon, I start to feel terrible and lousy and negative thoughts would just pop into my head AUTOMATICALLY. I began to walk very fast in crowded places and avoid walking in front of friends. I was afraid of others and friends examining the way I walked and how my body looks. Then I start to have problems eating alone and/or with friends and sadly enough, I was even afraid to eat in front of my relatives and parents. Whenever I lift up my spoon and was getting ready to open my mouth, negative thoughts like, “You eat disgustingly and check out that guy on ya right, he’s looking at you. Ha!” Immediately, I put my spoon down, adjust my seat and glance around to check. Then I would tell myself, “WTF are you thinking, are you crazy?” I slowly withdraw myself from the social scene and I only have a handful of friends now. I have not dated ever since 2007 and I dread going out on a date. I would have problems eating gracefully as negative thoughts and self-consciousness would arise. Every time when my date look away, I seize the opportunity and quickly slipped the food in my mouth and make sure he didn’t see my mouth open. If he did, I would shiver. My neck would get uncomfortable. My date didn’t went well as well, I became careful with my words and speech. I cannot control my thoughts and anxiety. I would shiver and get uneasy. At times I’d pray not to have panic attack out of the blue or else I’d get nervous, cold sweat and my hand and fingers would cringe and look funny. This went on for a year and I still don’t know that I have social anxiety but I know I became self-conscious. I became depressed and was too embarrassed to talk to anyone about this. I keep battling with my thoughts and arguing to my “bad-self” to stop the paranoia. Certain symptoms did go away and again, I don’t know what and how it did but the symptoms just gradually subside. I was able to control my walk a little and at times, I actually forgot about my walk. Now I am able to eat reasonably comfortably in front of certain friends and family but not completely. At times I’d challenge myself and force myself to hang out with a bunch of friends again, like the old days but soon enough my awareness heightened again and I became extremely self-conscious. Interestingly, I became aware of something as well. As soon as I became self-conscious, certain friends who are able to detect my nervousness became nervous as well! Strange! For a while it comforted me that I am not the only one feeling like this but it didn’t really help much either because their nervousness just increases mine! 2 years have past, I am still battling it. Though the symptoms and negativity did subside slowly and I begin to feel relatively assured; though there’re still chances of a panic attack. I may slowly begin to feel assured and comfortable at this point in life but it’s not something to be glad about. I am practically living like a hermit crab, I resist hanging out with friends and going to crowded places, I am in my own comfort zone. I hated it, I hate my life. I feel sick of myself and I hate myself for not being able to control it. I am missing so many things in life.. and I am just 25. I want my life back. I want the "old me." I cannot imagine this continuing for the next 5 years. I will seek treatment and I will try to think positively of the outcome but deep down I somehow feel that this feeling would never be cured. I feel lonely. Can it be something else other than social anxiety? Anyone.. please share your thoughts and/or experiences.  more

Resolved Question: How did self-consciousness happen on someone? Why am I suddenly extremely aware? How did this start?

Resolved Question: Should illegal aliens be detained when caught driving without a license?

Do you believe illegals should be detained whether they get picked up for driving without a license or any other charge? Should 287G go into effect after conviction of a crime or at time of arrest? Do you honestly believe that these lawbreakers will show up in court if they know they will be deported? Won't they run to another state and commit more crimes? _______________________________________________________ The federal government will no longer detain illegal immigrants caught driving without a license in Nashville. Instead, the federal system wants to use its bed space to house and deport the most dangerous offenders. The change is good news to advocates who have complained from the beginning, in spring 2007, that the focus of the local immigration enforcement program is misplaced on people who are only committing traffic infractions. In fact, one of the biggest criticism of the Davidson County Sheriff's Office has been that all offenders, from those driving without a license to those committing violent felonies, are treated to the same punishment once they are identified as illegal immigrants. The sheriff, who has stood behind the efficacy of the program, says he will continue to screen every foreign-born person arrested, whether they go directly to federal custody or not. "Just because the federal government is saying we need to prioritize who is detained, doesn't remove the fact they'll be held accountable in the courtroom," said Sheriff Daron Hall. "There is no shift. We are still processing everyone for every crime." Most of the 5,300 people sent toward deportation from Nashville's jail in the past two years spent weeks shuffled from one jail cell to another before being sent out of the country. About 75 percent of them were picked up on traffic offenses ranging from driving without a license to DUI; 25 percent were charged only with license offenses. Those people will now be eligible to be released on their own recognizance, allowed to leave jail once they've resolved their local charges and have a court date to see an immigration judge in Memphis. Clearer priorities Overcrowding in the federal prison system coupled with an effort by the federal government to establish clearer priorities regarding deportation spurred the change. Even though immigration advocates hail the federal decision, deportation is still likely for the illegal immigrants screened through the program — known as 287g. . "For fairness and due process, the 287g program would best be implemented if it were used to screen after a conviction," Weinberg said. sagey - you did not answer the question. stop with the God bull already, you have no idea what religion I am and it does not play in the illegal alien problem. My job has nothing to do with the issue either. I do my job and do it very well. I fight against illegal invasion in my spare time. Whether it be at my break time or home time. popeye - you are not an immigrant, immigrants have respect for laws, that is something you cannot have being an illegal.  more

These questions focus on the change in the retail music industry, specifically the drop in sales and profits experienced by the main record labels. Resolved Question: Do you think taboo and social reasons contribute to the underage drinking problem?

I think our problem with DUI offense legislation is that we focus on dangling that bottle of vodka higher and higher over the heads of teenagers, who will continue to try even harder to get ahold of it. Instead of making kids want alcohol even more, we should be better explaining to them exactly why it's such a problem in the first place. In the Netherlands, for example, there is no legal drinking age [1] and drunk driving is not nearly as big a problem there. Still, even after the 1984 decision to raise the US drinking age, their rates of drunk driving have still decreased more heavily than ours -- and so have other countries with lower or nonexistent legal drinking ages. [2] This is the same effect that marijuana has on US citizens. 42% of adults in the US have admitted to (illegally) smoking weed at least once in their lives, but only 19.8% of people in the Netherlands have admitted to (legally) doing so. [3] If you can't see a pattern here, something is wrong. Drinking fits right into the same category as the obviously failed war on drugs, because it's a taboo, controlled, mind-altering substance that is also a social prop. This is why prohibition didn't work, and this is why the war on drugs has been nothing but a giant toilet for taxpayer money. 1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age#Europe 2. http://blog.chooseresponsibility.org/2007/05/27/the-worldwide-decline-in-drinking-and-driving/ 3. http://www.plosmedicine.org/article/slideshow.action?uri=info:doi/10.1371/journal.pmed.0050141 animatorphil: I agree. Resolved Question: Obama Health Care? Intelligent responses please?

The White House, Democrats and MoveOn liberals are spreading health care sob stories to sell a government takeover. But there's one health care policy nightmare you won't hear the Obamas hyping. It's a tale of poor minority patient-dumping in Chicago -- with first lady Michelle Obama's fingerprints all over it. Both Republican Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Democratic Rep. Bobby Rush of Illinois have raised red flags about the outsourcing program run by the University of Chicago Medical Center. The hospital has nonprofit status and receives lucrative tax breaks in exchange for providing charity care. Yet, in fiscal year 2007, when Mrs. Obama was employed there, it spent a measly $10 million on charity care for the poor -- 1.3 percent of its total hospital expenses, according to an analysis performed for The Washington Post by the nonpartisan Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. The figure is below the 2.1 percent average for nonprofit hospitals in surrounding Cook County. Rep. Rush called for a House investigation last week in response to months of patient-dumping complaints, noting: "Congress has a duty to expend its power to mitigate and prevent this despicable practice from continuing in centers that receive federal funds." Don't expect the president to support a probe. While a top executive at the hospital, Mrs. Obama helped engineer the plan to offload low-income patients with non-urgent health needs. Under the Orwellian banner of an "Urban Health Initiative," Mrs. Obama sold the scheme to outsource low-income care to other facilities as a way to "dramatically improve health care for thousands of South Side residents." In truth, it was old-fashioned cost-cutting and favor-trading repackaged as minority aid. Clearing out the poor freed up room for insured (i.e., more lucrative) patients. If a Republican had proposed the very same program and recruited black civic leaders to front it, Michelle Obama and her grievance-mongering friends would be screaming "RAAAAAAAAACISM!" at the top of their lungs. Joe Stephens of The Washington Post wrote, "To ensure community support, Michelle Obama and others in late 2006 recommended that the hospital hire the firm of David Axelrod, who a few months later became the chief strategist for Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Axelrod's firm (ASK Public Strategies) recommended an aggressive promotional effort modeled on a political campaign -- appoint a campaign manager, conduct focus groups, target messages to specific constituencies, then recruit religious leaders and other third-party 'validators.' They, in turn, would write and submit opinion pieces to Chicago publications." Some health care experts saw through Mrs. Obama and PR man Axelrod -- yes, the same Axelrod who is now President Obama's senior adviser. But the University of Chicago Medical Center hired ASK Public Strategies to promote Mrs. Obama's initiative. Axelrod had the blessing of Chicago political guru Valerie Jarrett -- now a White House senior adviser. Axelrod's great contribution: re-branding! His firm recommended renaming the initiative after "internal and external respondents expressed the opinion that the word 'urban' is code for 'black' or 'black and poor.' … Based on the research, consideration should be given to re-branding the initiative." Axelrod and the Obama campaign refused to disclose how much his firm received for its genius re-branding services. In February 2009, outrage in the Obamas' community exploded upon learning that a young boy covered by Medicaid had been turned away from the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dontae Adams' mother, Angela, had sought emergency treatment for him after a pit bull tore off his upper lip. Mrs. Obama's hospital gave the boy a tetanus shot, antibiotics and Tylenol, and shoved him out the door. The mother and son took an hour-long bus ride to another hospital for surgery. I'll guarantee you this: You'll never see the Adams family featured at an Obama policy summit or seated next to the first lady at a joint session of Congress to illustrate the failures of the health care system. Following the Adams incident, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) blasted Mrs. Obama and Axelrod's grand plan. The group released a statement expressing "grave concerns that the University of Chicago's policy toward emergency patients is dangerously close to 'patient dumping,' a practice made illegal by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)" -- signed by President Reagan, by the way -- "and reflected an effort to 'cherry pick' wealthy patients over poor." Rewarding political cronies at the expense of the poor while posing as guardians of the downtrodden? Welcome to Obamacare. Voting Question: What are some good questions to ask cancer survivors?

I need to survey at least 6 people for my research class. I choose to focus on Cancer Survivors because I am recently a cancer survivor. Dad died in 2007 and Mom has been in remission for 18 years. I need to come up with 10 non open ended questions to ask. This is what I have so far. . In one word can you tell me what your reaction was when the doctor told you that you had cancer? . How long after the time that you found out about the diagnosis did it take for the doctor to get you into the hospital for your first treatment/surgery? . While at the hospital, was there any cancer survivors there to speak to you about their experience? . Did you have to have chemotherapy? . Did you have to have radiation? . Are you currently in remission? If so, how long? . Does Cancer run in your family? If so, which side, Mom, Dad, or Both? . Are you currently an advocate for Cancer Survivors? If not would you someday be interested in becoming an advocate? . Do you actively participate in the American Cancer societies Relay for life? I am not sure if these are good questions or not. I would surely like your input and suggestions. I would respectfully like to thank you in advance for all of your answers!  more

Resolved Question: Canadian Work Permit - Annotation on US Visas?

Hi, I worked in US on H-1B visa (IT Professional) between 1998 and 2005. During this time I got into into Drunk and Drive troubles twice. The first one was in Feb-2000 and second one was in June-2002. I pleaded guilty both the times and got DWAI both the times. I cleared all my sentences within the stipulated time period. I returned back to India in Sep-2005 after 7 year stay. After 2 year stay in India & I had again applied for H-1B visa in 2007 but US Consulate in India found my cases and had asked me to provide court papers/police records and medical report and finger print on all the 10 fingers. Subsequently after the review, US consulate granted me a visa for full 3 year period (Till Nov-2010) but added an annotation "CLASS/IAFIS HITS NOT INA INELIGIBILITY". I know I have no risk in going to US but as I am not getting any jon opportunity in US, I am applying for Canadian Work Permit but in the form there is 1 question "Have you or your family members arrested or committed Crime". I understand that I have to be honest here about DWAI issues happened in US but My question here is "Will Canadian immigration reject my application and deny work permit"? Although it is more then 5 years since last incident and still US has granted my visa? I have never been to Canada. Sorry for the big question but your response will definitely help me settle down and make me focus on something else if it does not work.  more

Resolved Question: Impeach Obama for corruption based on his illegal firing of AmeriCorps IG Walpin?

Walpin's a proven honest professional. The NY Post reports: News of AmeriCorps watchdog Gerald Walpin's unceremonious dismissal first broke last week in Youth Today, an independent national publication focused on the volunteerism sector. Walpin was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2007 and has served well, honorably and effectively. Too effectively. His removal came a week after he "questioned the eligibility of the largest and most expensive AmeriCorps program, and while the IG was contesting the 'propriety' of a settlement made with a mayor for alleged misuse of AmeriCorps funds," according to Youth Today. The first taxpayer-subsidized program is the Teaching Fellows Program, run by the Research Foundation of the City University of New York. Walpin's audit -- which can be found online at cncsig.gov -- uncovered a multitude of grant violations, including criminal-background-check lapses and "pervasive problems of eligibility, timekeeping and documentation." Walpin's office questioned duplicate educational awards of more than $16 million and costs worth nearly $775,000. CUNY refused to return excess funds that it had drawn down, failed to revise procedures to prevent such grant abuse and refused to provide proof documenting that its AmeriCorps participants existed. Walpin advised AmeriCorps' parent organization, the Corporation for National and Community Service, to cut off any new funding and re-examine past government funding totaling upward of $75 million. * * * But at least one subject of the investigation is a close friend of Obama's wife Michelle. Today the Obamas are actively engaged in a campaign of lies and smears about Walpin in order to cover up the illegality of the firing and the probable illegality of what the IG had discovered. Shades of Nixon. Even Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, a key DEMOCRAT, has said the firing violates the law -- a law designed to help protect Inspectors General from exactly this type of political pressure. Obama voted for that law then, but evidently exempts himself. Westhill -- May I say I despise people like you who pass along slanders? Glen Beck had the man, Wapin, on his show -- he was well-spoken, intelligent and on top of form. You slander so easily!  more

Resolved Question: Why Is Obama Listening To Health Care Lobbyists? Why Is He Flip Flopping ?

Voting Question: Has anyone had an issue like this with a ford focus?

Hello, I own a 2007 Ford Focus. I bought it in December of 08 and in March one a trip down to Maryland when I stopped for gas, I took the key out and the car stayed running! I finished my drive home and it didn't happen any more. Since then the problem has been getting a little bit more rhyme and reason to it and happening more often, before it would be like once a month. I have taken it to several ford dealerships and even called consumer affairs, and they have all told me that they can't do anything about it because it is temper-mental and they will have to physically see the car doing it. But here is the kicker, it tends to only do it when ford dealerships are closed and I am on my way home from work. The only way I have found to turn the car off is to turn the lights to the on position, which doesn't mean anything since the car is still registering as being on the lights wont turn off anyhow... Well now it has gotten to the point where roadside assistance came out, for the second time this week, and towed it away, but now the car will not lock by and it is showing that the doors are open and the alarm is going off, but it isn't. I think it is either the computer or the wiring. I guess what I am really looking for is opinions. Should I take legal action against ford, and if so what kind or should I try to get them to put me in a new car? (the car has been towed twice now, I have video of it happening, and they are refusing service to the car until they witness the problem themselves --- The car is under warranty for another 25,000 miles and 5 years, with how I drive its more like 1 year lol...)  more

Resolved Question: The aging rock star: Why is that so bad?

So I study music and recently a topic came up. The aging rock star. What's the problem? I would love to hear insight from anyone interested in answering. Every time I read an interview with a band from even the early 90's it opens with ..."Not a likely candidate to be a star, and old enough to be the dad of Britney Spears..." Or "I sit down with the aging rock star and he certainly doesn't look like a musician. He just looks old." Well, come on people. Everyone is aging. I think it's really sad that age is such an important issue in the music industry. You have the bands people consider the greats: The Doors, Queen, ACDC, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, etc. For me, it would be an honor to meet any memeber from any of these bands. So why the focus on the age? These artists contributed so much to music history. They wrote timeless music. Just in 2007 REM was inducted into the hall of fame and years prior were being called old already. Does age somehow equate with losing talent? Blows my mind. Even Tom Petty was being bashed on various forums for being irrelevant and "too old" to play the superbowl. I'd appreciate any comments. What bands around today do you think will meausre up to bands of the past? In my line of work, I see doctors and residents in their late 40s and early 50s still working toward their career goals. I never hear people tell them they are too old to be a doctor. I never hear "too old to be a teacher." Every single person is aging, regardless of profession. Can't we just appreciate the music? The bank teller is aging. The cashier is aging. The mechanic and the cook. Actors age and still play parts. What's the big deal with the aging rock star? It just says to me they stood the test of time and are still relevant. I apologize for the length of this.  more

Resolved Question: What does it mean when you dream of someone then meet them in real life years later?

For some reason, this thought JUST popped into my head tonight. When I was about/around 12 or so, I had these 2 dreams. Maybe it was 2 different dreams in one night, I can't remember. Anyway, the first part my mom and I were in this warehouse looking place (but it was a toy warehouse). We met this woman who was dressed up like a mermaid. She was really friendly and we were all just talking and stuff. In the dream, I knew who it was. It was a singer (not saying who), who at the time I hadn't even heard of her. I woke up thinking "Who was that lady?" Anyway, when I was around 16, my mom and I actually did meet this singer (I actually somehow became a really huge fan of her's). I saw a movie of her's one time, and in it she portrayed a mermaid...she looked exactly like the mermaid I saw in the dream. EXACTLY. Everything was perfect, down to the tiniest detail. I dreamt all this before I even knew who she was. Who would've thought that so many years later, I would like her and my mom and I actually would meet her. And not just once...like about 3 different times. Anyway, this is the one that I've been really thinking about. When I was about 12, I had another dream but of a different woman. I had no idea who this woman was, never saw her before in my entire life. In the dream, she and I were on my neighbor's porch/deck. It was like a party. There was plenty of other people around, and I was aware that they were there, but I was only really in tune with this woman. She too was focused on me. She had golden blonde hair, a little bit heavier, green eyes, white sweater, looked about late 40's, early 50's. In the dream I was still 12. Anyway, she smiled at me and I could feel that we had a connection, that she cared about me or something and I cared for her. Well, so many years later, I did meet this woman. Same age, 40's/50's, same hair, same weight, same eyes. Same everything! It's uncanny. Turns out, this woman and I did become close in real life, we never *did* anything, but I could feel strong vibes between us. I worked with her, but because of other co-workers, I quit, so I don't really see her anymore. I quit in 2007, I still to this day cannot stop thinking of her. I've thought of her at least once everyday since I've quit. I've never been this attached to someone before (other than my family that is, it's just a really strong pull). What do you think that means? Anything significant? Was it a prophetic dream or something? Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: how do you stop being preoccupied with something/depressed?

imagine in 2003 you were at a crossroads or made a bad mistake. nothing like hurting others or crime or anything, just a bad personal decision maybe related to pre-existing irrationally negative thought patterns. then in 2007 for some reason during some month after stressful times for some reason your mind becomes completely focused on that time in 2003 and you have a bad dream about it and then continue to wake up and spend the day not being able to shake the thought of how whatever must've happened back in 2003 hurt your life in 2007.  more

Resolved Question: How will Kimbo Slice do in TUF 10?

It seems like a majority of the 8 participants (so far) in TUF 10 are ex-NFL players with some MMA fights under their belt. Marcus Jones, the 1996 first-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, enters "TUF" with a 4-1 professional MMA record, which includes four first-round victories via stoppage (with an average time of just 91 seconds per win). Three of the wins came via TKO and one via submission. The 35-year-old played football at the University of North Carolina, where he was a four-time letterman, an All-American and the 1995 ACC Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot-6 defensive tackle played six NFL seasons with the Bucs. In his best season, 2000, he ranked eighth in the league with 13 sacks. He spent two additional seasons with the Buffalo Bills (but didn't play in the regular season) before giving up the sport. Soon after, he joined instructor Rob Kahn at Gracie Tampa and eventually made his professional MMA debut in 2007. Matt Mitrione, who had a nine-game stint with the New York Giants in 2002, will be one of the season's least-experienced fighters (on paper, anyway). He has no professional fights, according to the major fighter databases, though he reportedly has fought as an amateur. The 30-year-old Illinois native was an All-Big Ten defensive tackle for Purdue University. He went un-drafted after his senior year in 2000 but still earned his way into the NFL as a free agent. In addition to the Giants, the 6-foot-4 Mitrione spent some time with the Minnesota Vikings (though he didn't appear in any regular-season games for the team) before leaving the NFL in 2006. Brendan Schaub, a 6-foot-4 fullback for the University of Colorado who spent some time with (but didn't play for) the Buffalo Bills, is 4-0 as a professional MMA fighter. He's often compared to his longtime training partner, undefeated UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin. Like Carwin, Schaub has made quick work of his opponents since turning pro in 2008. In four professional fights, he has four first-round TKOs, and the average length of each fight is just 59 seconds. The 26-year-old Colorado native played for the Arena Football League's Utah Blaze before focusing solely on MMA. Schaub, the son of a second-degree Tae Kwon Do black belt, is a Golden Gloves boxing champion and the 2008 Colorado Open Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Absolute Advanced Grand Champion. He currently trains with Greg Jackson's renowned Team Jackson camp in New Mexico and T's KO Fight Club in Colorado. Wes Shivers, who had a short NFL stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2000, is 0-1 as a professional and 4-0 as an amateur, according to MMA.tv's fighter database. (However, his record is listed as 6-0 in some places). The muscular 6-foot-7 fighter is well versed in grappling and Muay Thai and previously competed as a super heavyweight before a lack of available opponents prompted a move down to heavyweight. The 32-year-old Team Hammer Hill fighter was a standout offensive lineman at Mississippi State University. The Tennessee Titans drafted him in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft. After playing three games with the Falcons in 2000, he left the NFL and focused on his MMA career. So...How do you see Kimbo Slice doing against these guys especially now that there won't be a crowd of fans looking on to see if he could live up the hype that he installed on youtube? Will Dana White offer him a contract to fight with the UFC regardless of whether or not he wins the Ultimate Fighter 10 competition? NOTE: So if Bobby Lashley get in as a competitor of TUF 10, will he do better than Ferguson (Kimbo Slice)?  more

Voting Question: Should I take this job off my resume?

In November and December of 2007, I worked as a PCA. The job ended because the person I assisted unexpectedly became hospitalized for a long time and several other things interfered with her assistance program. This job is on the version of my resume that focuses on my experence in Education because I use that version when applying for teaching/disability-related jobs. My intention was to show that I have working with people that have various disabilities, not just in the area of academic support for their individual needs. I am considering removing this job because I don't want to look unreliable.  more

Resolved Question: beginning a new relationship?

I was in my first serious relationship beginning in 2007-2009 and for the last 7 months of the relationship it was miserable and we fought constantly. We just were not right for each other although he was my first love and we had good memories too. I have dated around other guys since him and had a short term thing going on that ended because it was toxic and he was a little crazy, i later realized. I have been really focusing on myself lately and feel like I am comfortable with the person I am now. I am very happy focusing on my future goals and aspirations and having fun with my friends who just got back from their first yr of college. I just met someone a few days ago, out of no where. He and I know each others friends, he gets along with my friends and has gone out with us. He is charming, intelligent, athletic, chill, and a very respectful guy. We have talked about taking things slow because we agree it will just make things better. My problem is that I am so scared and can't get emotionally attached to anyone, even him and he is a great guy. Ill be going to gainesville in the fall and hell be in atlanta. He says really sweet things to me and I almost get turned off- which is terrible. I am over my ex completely I just need the strength to let this new, amazing person in my life. I know he's really into me and a great catch. Advice Please?  more

Resolved Question: Who here likes automatic transmissions in their sports car instead of manual transmission?

I am a manual transmission kind of guy, and I do like to change gears as you can control the revs. I just have to have a manual transmission to make it feel like I am driving a car. But with a manual transmission, you might have to switch gears too quick, and might lose focus. On the contrary, I am also a fan of automatic transmission. Imagine driving on a highway in a Jaguar XK, and you choose to go fast. You just press the gas pedal, and the car goes really fast. The thrill you get from this is also awesome. No switching gears, so you pay more attention on having fun. How about cars that have triptonics, or paddle shifters? They are also nice, and easier to handle. So, do you think automatic transmissions are also good? In the end it comes to preferences. Jaguar XK http://paultan.org/archives/2006/02/06/2007-jaguar-xk-coupe-and-convertible/ Don't put any rude comments. No lame remarks. Thank you.  more
